Community Outreach

A continuing series of live performances (30-60 minute “miniproductions”), staged all over San Diego County. These are produced and directed by Vanessa Dinning (Artistic Director) and written by David Wiener (Writer-In-Residence). They are designed to be enjoyed by everyone in the community, from schoolchildren to seniors.

  • “The Shakespeare Prescription” programs can be presented at care facilities, rest homes, senior centers, shelters, hospitals, and other venues where medical care and rehabilitation and provided.

  • “Bard@TheMall” programs can be presented at shopping centers anywhere in the County.

  • “Bard@School” programs are suitable for student audiences from middle school through high school and are presented in the school auditorium, theatre, outdoor lunch court, or any other available performance space.

  • “Bard@TheLibrary” programs can be presented in libraries. Programs are flexible enough to be performed on a stage, in a community meeting room, or even outside, depending on the resources of the facility and the preferences of library administrators.

  • The Board has approved an Outreach Internship Program, to be administered by David Wiener and Vanessa Dinning. This program seeks to establish long-term relationships with local colleges and universities, creating internships for theatre and drama students who will receive credit for producing, directing, and acting in San Diego Shakespeare Society Outreach Programs.

  • New Outreach projects will be posted and described here, as they become active. Possibilities include radio-theatre productions (working title: “Mind’s Eye Shakespeare”); more on this as things develop!
