Student Festival Coming Soon!

Audience Watching a Scene

We are counting down the weeks until our annual Student Shakespeare Festival.  Keep an eye on this page (or subscribe to our blog or newsletter) to get all the details on the excitement.

Shakespeare’s Birthday:  in the lead up to the Festival, we’ll be celebrating the Bard’s Birthday with a party on April 21.  Members get first chance at a seat in this limited seating event.

Join the Festival: The Student Festival is April 27th in Balboa Park.  You can still sign up your class, club, theatre group, or home school students to participate.  Anyone under the age of 18 who is from San Diego County may participate.

Moscow Schools:  We are proud to announce special guest performances at the Festival this year.  Two schools from Moscow are arranging to fly from Russia to perform their ten minute scenes as part of the festival.  This is a great chance for students from two countries to share their love of theatre, Shakespeare, and literature together.  Don’t miss it!

Upcoming Events: Sept and Oct

Aug 24-Sept 24:  Kickstarter Campaign to Fund the Sonnet Event
Follow the link above and pledge support to our fundraising campaign.  If we reach our goal of $1000, then the money comes to us.  If we receive less than $1000 in pledges, then no money is donated.  Kickstarter is an “All or Nothing” deal, so we need donations to reach our goal by Sept 24!  If you pledge money and the goal is reached, there are rewards for our donors!  You can get tickets to our Sonnet event in October, bumper stickers, magnets, personalized Shakespearean insults, participate in a video speech, dedicate a sonnet, get VIP seating, or even be a Celebrity at our sonnet event and present a sonnet for the audience.

Sept 2 (Sun) Noon-1:45 PM:  Festival of Sail performance
Aboard the Berkeley, downtown near the Star of India
Olympian High School performers will be representing the SDSS at this annual event.  If you are coming to the Festival of Sail, stop by at noon and see the performers.

Shakespearean Acting with Vanessa Dinning
Former Artistic Director of SDSS takes you back in time to Shakespeare’s own theatre.

All roles will be provided (no need to bring any scripts – they didn’t have them back in those days!).  Just bring yourself and be ready to have fun!

Beth Accomando on Shakespeare in Film (FREE)

Join us for a great afternoon of film discussion as Beth Accomando, film critic for KPBS, talks about Shakespeare on the big screen.  This will also be a Volunteer Appreciation event.  All volunteers for the SDSS are encouraged to attend.  Your support of our organization is truly appreciated and we are going to be celebrating you and your work with a little party!

Oct 8 (Mon) (Doors Open 7pm, Program starts 7:30pm):
